This is a book written in ADOBE (on a CDROM) that is easily read on screen (Adobe reader supplied,or use your own already installed) or the pages (about 500) can be printed to create a paper version. To those that have already bought this will have realized that it is not the usual E-BOOK. There are colour pictures and the chapters are laid out as in a paper version of the book. In fact, if the pages were printed they could be made into a paper back book. SOME PAPERBACK!

This book was written for fellow technicians who wanted to get to grips with the practical side to enable electronics to be enjoyed as a hobby and to make the profession more acceptable to all, new starters to the experienced. Heavy theory usually found in the text books are avoided but when it is necessary, it is explained in a way that is easy to understand.

The chapters, which have many links to jump to various items, cover lots of topics. Some are listed here...

For any further information about this book, feel free to contact me. To get the best out of this form of electronic book, open the folder "The Book in ADOBE files" then open the "CONTENTS" ADOBE folder and this will bring you to the titles and a brief description of the chapters. Click on any of the chapters to take you to that specific one. Each chapter will have its own navigational subtitles by clicking on the "navigation" panel. Throughout most of the chapters will be links to take you else ware and back again. At the bottom of each one (except the introduction pages, there are links to take you to the next chapter (introduction pages have this one) and back to the top and to the contents again.

If you do not already have a compiler, then I have included the HEX codes for you to dump to your programmer. There are also the source codes available for you to copy and paste and to modify if required.

The folders containing PICMATE and SERIN are the communication software described in the book to allow your PIC to talk to your PC.

The PIC MODULES folder contains the modules that I have available. There is also a circuits folder there too of some of the modules.

The MOVIES folder will show you the projects working in MPEG. These can be viewed on any Widows 95 / 98/ 2000/XP and others, multimedia.

That's it. Enjoy and report back!

Here is a list of the contents...

Contents Introduction

What this book (CD) is all about

Chapter One Let’s get started

How to use the PIC for communicating with another PIC or the outside world

Chapter Two Communication

Build an annunciator to communicate amongst the family

Chapter Three Dongle Still with communication, this is a set of projects that use "dongles" as secret keys.

Chapter Four Keypads How to use a keypad to send coded signals

Radio BOOK ONE README

Just GBP 4.99 each [plus GBP 1 P&P] from eBay on-line Book seller, by Eric Edwards. Email: eric@eddy11.fsnet.co.uk

Hello and welcome to the first in a series of Let’s do It Practical Radio books. This is book one and deals with the simplest of radio receivers starting with the humble Crystal Set, then on to TRF (Tuned Radio Frequency), and ending with Regenerative receivers. Each chapter describes how these receivers work and how to build them. All the components are common or garden types and the coils are homemade. The introduction chapter has quite a bit of useful information as well as radio stuff!

To those that have already bought this will have realized that it is not the usual E-BOOK. There are colour pictures and the chapters are laid out as in a paper version of the book. In fact, if the pages were printed they could be made into a paper back book. SOME PAPERBACK!

Open the book in Adobe. If you don’t already have this on your computer, you can down-load the latest from the Adobe web site (free of charge) or you can install version 5 that is included on this CDROM. Click on the orange box icon and follow the instructions. You have to accept the licence agreement before you can use it. You may have to close the page first, and then you will see it. Accept this and it will complete the installation. Version 5 Adobe reader is quite old now in computer terms and you will probably have a much later version installed already. So there be no need to install the one supplied on the CD.

I suggest you open the CONTENTS folder first although you can jump to any of the chapter folders. Each chapter will have its own contents page and they are hyperlinked so that you can click on a line in the contents page to take you straight to the place you want.

This is a truly practical book and contains several examples of each of the radio types. I have built all of them and they all give excellent results and each type of radio receiver has its own characteristics. They are fun to built and you will want to tune all through the night (That’s a good title for a song!)

Enjoy reading these pages, build the receivers and most of all … have fun.
